Black Sabbath are an English heavy metal band, in Aston, Birmingham, founded in 1969 by Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums). The band has since experienced multiple lineup changes, with Tony Iommi is the only constant presence in the band over the years. Having a total of 22 musicians, at one time or another, were members of Black Sabbath. Originally founded in 1968 as a heavy blues-rock band named Earth and renamed Black Sabbath began in 1969 the band already occult and horror inspired lyrics with tuned-down guitars and achieve multi-platinum in 1970. Despite its association with occult and horror themes, Black Sabbath songs also deal with social unrest, political corruption, the dangers of drug abuse and often apocalyptic prophecies of the horrors of war together.
Black Sabbath are mentioned, along with Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, as pioneers of heavy metal. The band helped define the genre, with films like Paranoid quadruple platinum album, released in 1970. Have been ranked by MTV as “the greatest metal band” of all time, and VH1 “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” list, behind Led Zeppelin’s second. Rolling Stone the band as “the king of heavy metal compounds of the ’70s.” They have more than 15 million albums sold in the U.S. alone and more than 70 million records sold. Black Sabbath were imported into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and were included in the Rolling Stone list of 100 greatest artists of all time.
Singer Ozzy Osbourne heavy alcohol and cocaine use led to his being fired from the band in April 1979, after which he began a successful solo career, selling over 55 million albums. He was replaced by former Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio After several albums with God singing and songwriting collaborations, Black Sabbath experienced a revolving line-up in 1980 and 1990, vocalist Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen and Tony Martin included. In 1992 he was Iommi and drummer Vinny Appice, and God the Butler to record Dehumanizer. The original line-up with Osbourne in 1997, reunited and released a live album, Reunion. The 1980-1982 and 1991-1992 line-up with Iommi, Butler, God, Appice, and in 2006 under the name Heaven and Hell God until his death on 16 Renovated in May 2010.
The November 11, 2011, announced the original band members for the reunion and new album have been included. The band plans to do a headlining slot at the Download Festival, the 10th of June 2012 lead, followed by a world tour. On February 2, 2012, Ward announced publicly on Facebook, which he did not participate in the Black Sabbath reunion, where he was given no “with signing the contract.” The next day, the other members of the group had “no choice but to resume recording without him,” but said “our door is always open” for Ward returns to the band.
